No one is above party , discipline supreme in Congress: Shinde Chidambaram visiting Jammu on Soz's invitation
PCC leaders pay tributes to Mahatma Gandhi

Jammu, Jan 30: In an oblique reference to the factionalism prevalent in j&K Congress, the Union Minister for Power and senior AICC leader Sushil Kumar Shinde today said the party is supreme and no one is above the party. The veteran leader underlined the need for maintaining discipline within the organization, contending the decisions taken in recently held AICC session focused on these lines needed to be taken forward as directed by the High command.
"No individual is superior to party guidelines... we have to accept the responsibilities given to the leaders in various capacities... I am here today because Soniaji wanted me to be here...", Shinde said here today in a function organized by J&K Pradesh Congress Committee to commemorate martyrdom of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi. Shinde was the chief guest while PCC chief and veteran party leader Prof Saifuddin Soz presided over the function which was attended by rank and file of the organization besides senior leaders and ministers of Congress.
The senior Congress leader without directly referring to the two factions working in parallel manner observed that Prof Soz is performing the responsibility that has been entrusted to him by the Party High Command, contending no individual has any identity without the party. The decision of the High Command is accepted by everyone and that speaks of the value of discipline in the Congress, he asserted.
Paying tributes to Father of the Nation Sushil Kumar Shinde said that the philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi is relevant for all times to come and the entire World takes guidance and inspiration form Gandhian philosophy toady.
Addressing a mammoth gathering at a function organised by the JKPCC at Lower Roop Nagar (Muthi) Shinde said that Mahatma Gandhi's philosophy is a beacon light for the entire world today. Not only small countries but even the heads of super powers in the World today seek to learn and follow the philosophy of Gandhi Ji and visit India as a mark of pilgrimage and respect. The senior AICC leader said that the philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi is woven in to the policies and programmes of the Congress party.
Expressing his happiness over the presence of huge crowd, he said he is deeply impressed by the mammoth gathering in the rally in which party workers from different parts of Jammu province are participating and which shows the strength of Congress in the state. He said that he was deputed by the Congress President Sonia Gandhi to be present in the rally on her behalf.
"JKPCC Chief Prof. Saifuddin Soz had earlier extended invitation to the Congress President to grace the occasion in this function. Since she is pre occupied, I was deputed for the the same..." Shinde said adding he he is reminded of the period when he was AICC General Secretary incharge J&K state during the period 1992 to 96, however he is greatly impressed by the today's rally in which people from all religions and sections are present. "It shows that the party under the leadership of Prof. Saifuddin Soz is growing stronger in the state…". The AICC leader said , He also praised Prof. Soz for his contribution at the national level in the party and in the parliament and his keen interest and knowledge about the affairs of Jammu and Kashmir.
Paying tributes to Father of the Nation, Prof. Soz said that Congress party is meant to serve the people by following the principles and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi Ji. He said Sonia Gandhi has always maintained that politics is another name of service to people.
The PCC President also announced launch of mass contact programme of the party, a campaign to take to the masses the achievements of Congress party and UPA government to the people at the grass root level. Under this campaign rallies of the party would be organized in each assembly segments across the state.
Making a significant announcement, Prof Soz disclosed that Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram has accepted his invitation to visit Jammu shortly to hold detailed discussions with the party leaders including ministers on various issues and their views and suggestions to deal with the Kashmir problem. He said the interlocutors have submitted some reports about their interactions with different schools of thoughts and the Home Minister is working on those inputs. " I hope the report submitted by the interlocutors would make a desired impact", the Congress leader said.
The function was attended by all Vice Presidents of PCC, General Secretaries, DCC Presidents, heads of Frontal organizations Mahila Congress, INTUC, Youth Congress, NSUI, Legislators and prominent office bearers of district and block presidents. AICC Secretary Capt. Praveen Davar paid rich tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and cautioned the people about the designs of communal forces. He praised the Pradesh Congress Committee for launching the mass contact campaign to aware the people in the state about the philosophy of Gandhi Ji and policies and programmes of Congress party throughout the state from today the martyrdom day of Gandhi Ji.
