Homage to 1953 martyrs
J&K govt still treating tricolour hoisters as fugitives: BJP

JAMMU, Jan 31: To pay homage to the martyrs of 1953 agitation, Khour and Akhnoor Mandals of BJP organized a programme at Jourian which was attended by State President Shamsher Singh Manhas and other senior leaders.
According to a handout issued here today, the memorial erected in the memory of these martyrs witnessed gathering of people from all walks of life. Manhas, on this occasion, said that January 31 is a day of great significance for the nationalist people who have always been in front line for the honour of national symbols in the state and its total integration with the rest of the country. He added that it was in 1953 agitation that dozens of youth sacrificed their precious lives in different parts of Jammu province while hoisting the tri-colour.
Manhas said that the state government led by Omar Abdullah still treats the people carrying tricolour as fugitives. He said that attitude of NC-Congress coalition during the recently concluded Rashtriya Ekta Yatra of BJYM has once again proved that neither NC nor Congress has any respect for tricolour. Manhas appealed the people to strengthen hands of BJP.
He added that state BJP is committed for the nationalist cause in the state adding that the undemocratic and illegal methods adopted to demoralize the nationalist forces will be given a befitting response, both legally and at public level. RSS Sangchalak Brig. Suchet Singh, while paying homage said that sacrifices of these martyrs will continue to inspire future generations.
State General Secretary Sat Sharma, former MLA Sehdev Singh, SC Morcha President Chaman Lal Kanathia, BJYM President Munish Sharma, Kissan Morcha President Karan Singh, Mangat Singh, Omi Khajuria, Rajinder Singh, Daljit Singh, Suraj Singh, Hans Raj Manhas, Manmohan Singh, Jagdish Pandey, Pawan Singh, Chuni Lal, Yashpal Sharma and Pawan Kumar, were prominent among those who paid tributes to these martyrs.
