47 percent J&K households metered, claims PDD | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Jan 31: Estimates Committee (EC) of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly has stressed upon the officers of Power Development Department (PDD) to speed up pace on all ongoing projects taken up under various state and centrally sponsored schemes, including Rajiv Gandhi Gramin Vidyutikaran Yojana (RGGVY) and complete these in a stipulated time frame. Committee, which met here today under the chairmanship of MLA, Harshdev Singh, discussed various issues. These included number of villages, hamlets and patties covered partly and those stills uncovered funds sanctioned, released and utilized under various schemes for electrification of different areas in each region during 2008-09 and 2009-10, quantum of Transmission and Distribution losses, illegal connections and the measures taken to overcome such losses along with revenue accrued. It was informed in the meeting that 47 percent metering was achieved ending March, 2009. Out of 12, 39, 216 consumers, 5, 91, 015 were metered as on ending March, 2010. It was also informed that the department has a target to meter left over unmetered consumers of 30 towns which are being taken up under R-APDRP scheme during the year 2010-11. Department is also committed to achieve 100% metering during 2012-13 which is also mandatory for the Jammu and Kashmir Electricity Act 2010. Legislators, Rafi Ahmad Mir, Mohammad Yaseen Shah, Peer Afaq Ahmad, Durga Dass, Feroz Ahmad Khan, Ashwani Kumar, Zulafkar Ali and Murtaza Ahmad Khan raised various issues of public importance and gave their valuable suggestions for the improving power scenario in rural areas.
