| Mega Fruit Show organized, 1400 exhibits put up for display | | | POONCH –09- A mega fruit show was organized by the Horticulture Department here today where more than 1400 exhibits of fresh and dry fruits and canned products were put for display. The District Development Commissioner Mohammed Ramzan Thakur inaugurated the show and Director Horticulture M S Qasba who was also present on the occasion briefed the DDC about various activities being implemented for promotion of horticulture in the border district. Farmers from far flung areas participated in the show and exhibited their products like Walnut, Pecan nut, Nimboo, Sweet Lime, Kinnow, Sangtra (Orange),Kimb, Galgal, Chakodes, Aonla, Guava, Apple, Persimon, Olive and Grapes apart from canned products like Suash, Jams, Jallies, Pickles and Chattnies at the mega fruit show. The farmers who presented fruits and canned products of superior quality were awarded with cash prizes and certificates of honour. The walnut exhibited by Mohammed Aslam son of Ghulam Ahmed Mir of Gagrian Mandi was adjusted as the ‘best fruit’ of the show and was awarded with a cash prize of Rs.600 and a certificate of merit. For the awareness of farmers and orchardists, the department distributed important informative material like literature, blow- ups and posters. Appreciating Horticulture Department for organizing such a mega show, the DDC impressed upon the farmers to get benefits under various schemes of the department for increasing fruit production and productivity in the district, which in turn would boost their economy.
