Efforts afoot to enhance literacy rate in rural areas: Sham

Jammu, Jan 31: Minister for Health, Horticulture and Floriculture, Sham Lal Sharma has said that education is imperative for personality development of children, adding that Government reached out in every nook and corner to spread education.
The Minister was speaking at the annual functions of Government Higher Secondary School, Nardi-Bala and Government High School, Mera Mandrian in Akhnoor block today.
Listing the steps initiated to strengthen the education network in Akhnoor tehsil, the Minister said over the past 4-5 years the Government has opened primary schools in every hamlet to promote the literacy rate, especially among the girls. He said that a large number of schools have been upgraded from middle to matriculation and above to provide education to the students of far-flung areas. The Government also established a degree college at Akhnoor to facilitate thousands of students.
In order to provide trainings to the youth in various para-medical streams, the Minister announced a Nursing College for Akhnoor. He said that work for construction of the college building would start soon near Akhnoor for which Rs. 20 crore have been earmarked. He said that the para-medical institution will cater to the training needs of thousands of students across the Jammu division.
Sharma apprised that a Navodhya Vidhalya has already been sanctioned for Akhnoor and it has started functioning in a make-shift arrangement in Akhnoor town. The Vidalya will be located at village Nardi (Tachrwan) very soon. He also disclosed that a Regional Training Institute for Navodhya Vidhalya teachers will also be set up at village Nardi for which the land has already been identified. With the establishment of these two institutions, the overall education scenario of the area will improve considerably, he maintained.
Responding to the demand of strengthening the infrastructure of Higher Secondary School, Nardi-Bala, the Minister said that Government has already selected the school for developing as a model institute and necessary modern infrastructure will be created accordingly. He appreciated the performance of the school in academic as well as co-curricular activities.
At Mandrian, the Minister assured that an examination hall will be constructed during the current financial year. He also issued instructions to the concerned officers to start work of boundary wall of the school and water storage in the premises for the facilities of the students.
