Residents face acute water scarcity | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT KATRA Jan 31:- Residents of ward no-4 near Ponabar Mandir have been facing shortage of water supply since years, as due to highly commercialisation of Katra town and with the huge construction of hotels-guest houses in every nook and corner of the town, resulting owners of such commercial establishments are usually involved in the illegal practise of pulling water from the passing water-pipes by using heavy water-sucking motors which now has become a routine process of them. Several locals alleged it hardly effects to those who are already having with number of water supply connections to their houses, but what about those common man who has only one connection often has to bear the brunt of irregular- shortage or without water supply for number of days during summer season. They said administration in coordination with concerned PHE department must devise plans for equal distribution and regular supply of water in residential houses on priority basis and also check and control illegal practise of water-sucking motors so that residents may not be deprived of regular water supply throughout the year. Pertinent to mention here that many influential businessmen of the town have taken illegal water connections from the main water-supplier pipe meant to fill PHE departmental water tank source. When talked to official sources, they revealed that flexible laws do not allow to take action against the water-motors user culprits while they could not response satisfactorily on illegal water connections.
