JPPF hails government’s reconsideration on Mattoo’s appointment | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 1: Jammu Province People’s Forum (JPPF) has hailed the reported second thought in the Union Ministry of Human Resources Development about appointment of Amitabh Mattoo as Vice Chancellor of Central University Jammu and the contemplated move to cancel this appointment. In a meeting of JPPF held here today under the chairmanship of Pavitter Singh, ex session Judge and chairman JPPF observed that the strong opposition to the appointment of Prof Mattoo as first VC CU Jammu by various sections of Jammu people has ultimately lead to the review of earlier decision taken by the Union HRD Ministry. It was further observed that in the face of strong opposition to the same in Jammu and threats of agitation by various sections of Jammu people the President of India put a rider on her approval to the HRD Ministry’s recommendations for Prof Mattoo’s appointment, has also caused second thinking and review of its earlier decision by the Union HRD Ministry. This has vindicated the stand of JPPF and many other organizations agitating against this appointment, in view of Prof Mattoo’s well known and well established anti Jammu and Kashmir centric approach as well as his leanings towards the separatists and even Kashmiri militants. The forum has, however, demanded that the appointment of a new Vice Chancellor from among the local academicians of high caliber should be made and announced soon to end the uncertainty over the matter. Besides this other steps to make the University functional should be taken early so that another academic session is not lost. Already one academic session has been lost. The forum has demanded that the identified land for the University should be soon handed over to the concerned authorities for undertaking construction and creating other infrastructure.
