BJP denounces HM’s remarks on Ekta Yatra | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 1: The state BJP has taken serious concern over the Union Home Minister P Chidambram’s remarks complimenting the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister for what he described as “tactful” handling of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) Rashtriya Ekta Yatra last week. Talking to media persons here today, BJP chief spokesperson and national executive member, Jitendra Singh said that the Home Minister’s remarks not only exposed the Congress-led UPA government’s connivance with the NC led state government in methodically suppressing legitimate democratic mainstream activity but it was also a gross impropriety on the part of Union Home Minister to compliment the state authorities which had unauthorisedly kept in illegal detention three senior national leaders two of whom Arun Jaitley and Sushma Swaraj enjoyed the status of Union Cabinet Ministers. Jitendra Singh said that at a time when the BJP’s central leadership had taken up the matter with Manmohan Singh government, it smacked of high-handedness on the part of Home Minister to endorse the treatment meted out to Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj and Anant Kumar. He added that the BJP was seriously worried about the Union Home Minister’s frequent instigatory initiatives which have time and again tended to demoralize the nationalistic and patriotic forces in the state and provided encouragement to separatists. ‘It seems as though Chidambarm has forsaken his constitutional duties to uphold the sovereignty of the Indian republic and is instead contributing to further loosening of the relationship bond of state of Jammu and Kashmir with the rest of India’, he alleged. Also taking strong exception to government’s attitude in canceling BJP rally at Parade Ground on January 25 on the pretext of section-144 imposed in interest of law and order, Singh asked whether the law & order situation had in any way changed to the extent that two public rallies by the Congress party were permitted to be organized on January 31. This only indicates the party politics motivating decision in the administration.
