Tourism dev project at Dera ki-Gali under implementation | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu Feb 01-: Minister for Forests and Environment, Mian Altaf Ahmad has said that an ambitious project to conserve Mughal heritage sites in border district Rajouri is under implementation to attract tourists to the area. He said under the project necessary eco-friendly infrastructure at scenic spots of Dera-ki-Gali and its adjoining area is being created in a phased manner. The Minister was inspecting pace of work on various ongoing eco-tourism related work at Dera-ki-gali. He took detailed stock of execution of various works, which include construction of huts, pathways, view points, trekking paths. The Minister directed the concerned authorities to redouble their efforts and ensure timely completion of all works. He stressed for giving aesthetic look to the infrastructure being created in the area for attracting tourists coming through Mughal road. He instructed that locals should be involved in execution of development works so that they could earn their livelihood locally. The Minister was apprised that entire earmarked amount of Rs 40 lakh have been spent on the project in 2009-10 and Rs 50 lakh so far out of the earmarked amount of Rs one crore during current fiscal, where as Rs one crore will be incurred on the project in next financial year. The total cost of the prestigious pilot project is Rs 2.40 crore. Commissioner/Secretary Forest, Shantmanu, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, R.D.Tiwari, District Development Commissioner Rajouri, Bashir Ahmad Khawja, besides other senior officers accompanied the Minister during his tour.
