International conference on gastric cancer held at SKIMS | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Feb 01: An International Conference on “International Surgical Update on Gastric Cancer” was held in Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura here today. Minister for Tourism and Culture, Nawang Rigzin Jora was the chief guest. The conference was attended by doctors of International and national repute. Dr Prof. Munemasa Ryu of Japan also attended the conference. Addressing on the occasion, Jora highlighted the importance of holding such conferences, adding, it would positively provide an opportunity to know the reasons of gastric cancer and the latest modalities of its treatment. He hailed the SKIMS management for inviting international reputed doctor on the subject from Japan who would present his paper about the latest research work. Director SKIMS, A. H. Zargar said that conference was the first ever international conference on cancer of Stomach to be held in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. It was meant to spread information about the said dreaded diseases and the new treatment modalities thereof. It was discussed in the conference how Kashmir valley is leading zone in the world where its prevalence is very high. At the end of various deliberations, the national and international dignitaries laid stress on continuance of such events and offered much support in future. On the occasion, Prof G. Q. Allaqband was the guest of honour and other dignitaries who attended the conference include Prof. M.A. Darzi, Prof. Showkat Ahmad Zargar, Prof. Mushtaq Ahmad, Prof. Khurshid Alam Wani and Prof Vinod Tikku, Dr. Fazl Q. Parray, Additional Professor, Department of Surgery and other concerned doctors presented their papers on the subject.
