FDR deplores Sopore killings | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 1: Condemning the Sopore incident in which two girls were kidnapped and killed, the Forum for Democratic Rights (FDR) has called for a high level investigation into the gruesome killings. In a meeting of the Forum held here today under the presidentship of Prof Zahoor-ud-Din, the members termed the Sopore killings as heinous and barbarous act. The Forum discussed several issues of grave concern including human rights abuse, increasing violence and corruption. The Forum also demanded an end to human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir and maintained that lack of democratic space within the state and perpetuation of human rights. The members blamed the Central and the state governments for their inability to normalize the situation. Instead of easing tensions, the government functionaries are making confusing statements on troops reduction and Armed Forces Special Powers Act, they said.
