RSS seeks apology from Azad
2/1/2011 9:52:49 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Feb 1: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has sought an apology from the Union Health Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad for leveling “baseless and false” allegations for its alleged involvement in the killing of Mahatma Gandhi.
Talking to the media persons here today, the RSS Sanghchalak, J&K, Brig (Retd) Suchet Singh said the Union Minister’s remarks linking the Sangh with terrorism were “highly unfortunate and condemnable”.
Singh said that Azad should tender an apology in public for his “irresponsible” and “baseless” statement. “The Union Minister should explain to the public on what grounds he held the Sangh responsible for the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi. The court had already given clean chit to the RSS, saying Sangh had no role, whatsoever, in the killing of Mahatma Gandhi and the person who killed Gandhi had no link with the RSS,” he maintained.
“Besides the Kapoor Commission and the former Home Minister, Sardar Patel had also denied any involvement of RSS activists in this case. The first Prime Minister, Pt Jawaharlal Nehru had also admitted his blunder and had said that the Sangh was a nationalist organization, inviting it for participation in 1963 Republic Day parade,” the RSS leader said.
Azad had held RSS responsible for the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi while paying tributes to the Father of Nation on his 63rd martyrdom on January 30.
Taking a dig at the Union Minister, the RSS said, “Azad, who was also the former Chief Minister in the state, has lost also its footings in Jammu and Kashmir and he wants to gain his lost creditability by making such baseless and irresponsible statement.” The RSS leader blamed that the Congress was eying Muslim vote bank and the “irresponsible” statements were the part of its intentions. “It would prove to be dangerous for the society as well as for the entire nation. It had been trying to hide its failure by raking up the issue of Hindu terrorism,” Singh said. The Sangh also dropped a hint for initiating a legal action against the Congress leaders for their alleged ‘baseless’ assertions against it.
