Chidambaram visit significant, says Prof. Soz | PC to have 'exchange of ideas' with senior congress leaders | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Feb 1: Union Home Minister P Chidambaram's visit to J&K on February 3 may be one of routine in the series of visits he has been making during the past few months to state, mainly in context of review of law and order situation. But it assumes significance in the wake of parleys he will holding with some political leaders in context of the report submitted to him by the interlocutors incorporating some CBMs across the state. Congress, the main coalition partner of the ruling alliance is upbeat for PC is scheduled to have 'exchange of ideas' with the party functionaries including some ministers with regard to their views on ground situation and the measures suggested by the interlocutors. " His visit is certainly significant because interlocutors have produced a couple of reports before him…….he is wanting to see the response in terms of situation and other things in the state", Prof Saif-u-Din Soz , veteran Congress leader and president of J&K Pradesh Congress Committee said. It is pertinent to mention that Prof Soz has in particular invited Union Home Ministers to Jammu with a purpose also to have exchange of ideas with the senior leaders of the party at the state level. "Congress is the main alliance partners …..it should know what is the status of the ongoing dialogue process in the state ……it is in this context some senior people will discuss some vital aspects and listen to what he has to say ..". the PCC Chief said adding that the current political situation in the state would also form vital part of the discussions. The PCC President, who confirmed the main engagement of Chidambaram meeting with party leaders during the visit, is believed to have prepared a list of some senior people from both Kashmir and Jammu including few ministers in the Omar Abdullah led cabinet. While Prof Soz did not divulge in detail the 'content' around which the exchange of ideas would take place, sources said the Union Home minister with whom the three interlocutors met recently after they culminated first leg of their assignment after holding interaction with a cross section of people, is likely to share recommendations made in the report with the party seniors in state and at the same time seek their opinion and views viz-aviz ground situation in so far as the implementation of these measures is concerned. Sources said interlocutors have given a set of recommendations in relation to their talks with the people and communities strongly seeking commencement of these measures. Even though the Centre would formally submit this report to the state government later this month, the Union Home minister will have a feel of the response with regard to the recommendations before implementing them from the quarters where things matter. Apart from Congress leaders, Chidmabaram is likely to seek opinion from the senior politicians of other parties as well. Since the interlocutors are learnt to be keen on both Centre and state pay attention to the recommendations and also take steps earnestly towards implementation before they start second leg of the visit with regard to assigned job, the Union Home minister's visit assumes much significance.
