Collaborative research must for better human, animal health: Vohra
VIII annual congress of ISACP

Jammu, Feb 2: Governor N. N. Vohra today stressed need for undertaking collaborative research by doctors dealing with human beings and those in veterinary sciences for evolving integrated approaches to deal effectively with prevention and management of animal diseases vis-à-vis human health.
Governor was addressing inaugural session of the 3-day VIII Annual Congress of the Indian Society for Advancement of Canine Practice (ISACP) and National Symposium on “Prevention and Management of Companion Animal Diseases vis-à-vis Human Health”, organized by the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST), Jammu, in collaboration with ISACP, here today.
The Governor, who is the Chancellor of the University, observed that we need to identify areas of common research benefiting human population as well as the animals. He said that since times immemorial canines and bovines have contributed to human welfare. He added that the dog is man’s oldest friend and was the first animal to be domesticated by man.
Governor said that with the advancement of frontiers of science there is need for area-wise specialization in veterinary sciences, on the pattern as has happened in the field of medical care of humans. He said that animals, particularly the canines, being the source of many food born and zoonotic diseases afflicting humans, the entire range of canine-human issues need to be kept in mind when we discuss the canine practice.
Governor released the Souvenir of the Conference, two books and the ISACP’s Life Members’ Identity Cards. He presented ISACP lifetime achievement, Society’s Gold Medal and other Awards to a number of distinguished participants for the laudable work done by them in the varied fields of veterinary sciences. Governor interacted with all the award winners and congratulated them for their achievements.
