95 J&K athletes to participate in national games: Chib | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 2: A contingent of 95 athletes from the state is participating in the 34th National Games 2011 scheduled to be held from February 12 to 26, in Jharkhand. Event is being held at Ranchi, Danbad and Jamshedpur towns of Jharkhand. This was stated by Minister for Youth Services and Sports Prof. R. S. Chib at a press conference here today. Giving details, the Minister said that the sportsmen from Jammu and Kashmir will participate in 11 disciplines. These include athletics, boxing, cycling, fencing, gymnastic, handball, kayaking and canoeing, shooting, swimming, weightlifting and wrestling. He said that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah will flag off the selected athletes on February 8. Referring to the State’s performance in National Games, Prof. Chib said that the players of the state won 17 medals in different category in various disciplines last year. He hoped that the participants will bring laurel to the state by winning more medals this time. The J&K Sports Council is sponsoring the event by providing kits and other facilities. Among others, Director General, YSS, S. A. Leharwal, Director Information, Khawaja Farooq Renzu, President, Olympic Association, J&K Chapter, Rangeel Singh and officers of Sport Council were present on the occasion.
