Research centers to boost agriculture production | | | Early Times Report NEW DELHI, Feb 2: Annual general meeting of Indian council for agriculture and Research (ICAR) was held today here at New Delhi. Minister for agriculture and food processing industries Sharad Pawar chaired the council meet. Minister for Agriculture Ghulam Hassan Mir participated in the council meet. While laying stress to boost agriculture production in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, minister said that there is a dire need to provide the state with various all India co-coordinated research centers for improvement in sectors like vegetables, agro forestry, potatoes, and mushrooms. In his resolutions, he said that Jammu and Kashmir is rich in agro bio-diversity and has maximum rain fall area therefore establishment of ICAR research complex on the pattern of north eastern region in necessary to cater the research need of Jammu and Kashmir particularly for rainfed agriculture together with establishment of Directorate of Research. He impressed for strengthening of existing AICPR on rice in terms of staff and infrastructural facilities to start hybrid varietal development programme having bio diversity and productivity. While concluding he thanked the Union minister for Agriculture and the Council of Ministers.
