EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Feb 3: Attempts were being made by militants and their handlers across the LOC for triggering fresh wave of violence in Jammu and Kashmir where the situation has remained peaceful during the last five months.
Police sources said that the recent attack on Army patrol in Tral, kidnapping and murder of two sisters in Sopore and grenade attack on the house of senior congress leader Ghulam Rasool Kar were some of the latest incidents that have confirmed reports from intelligence agencies regarding regrouping of militant outfits in Kashmir for the purpose of kicking up violence.
According to these sources, Chief of Muzaffarabad based United Jehad Council (UJC) Syed Salahuddin announced that the target oriented armed struggle in Kashmir will continue despite peace process on the anvil. They added that Salahuddin’s announcement was in fact meant for those militants who were operating in Jammu and Kashmir to adopt offensive measures.
Sources said that since the talks between foreign secretaries of India and Pakistan were being held shortly for framing agenda to be discussed during proposed dialogue between foreign ministers of the two countries. They assert that militants were planning to kick up violence to wreck the proposed parleys between Indian foreign minister and his Pakistani counterpart.
