Rather reviews functioning of accounts, treasuries in valley | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGR, Feb 3: Maintaining that the government treasuries have a vital role in effecting fiscal discipline, the Minister for Finance Abdul Rahim Rather today asked treasury officers (TOs) to act as real guardians of state’s exchequer. Speaking at a high level periodic review meeting of Accounts and Treasuries Department, Kashmir division, Rather said that owing to its multifaceted dealings, functioning of treasuries has a direct impact on the public life thereby reflecting face of the government. “More effective and honest delivery system in treasuries, bright and people-friendly image of government shall be reflected,” Rather added. Minister said that government is concerned about welfare of the employees of accounts and treasuries department adding that since October 2009, 740 promotion of members of J&K Accounts Gazetted and non-gazetted have been ordered, of which 100 promotions have been cleared by PSC. He said that interests of employees would be safeguarded while non-performing officers would not be tolerated. Director General Accounts and Treasuries gave a brief resume of the functioning of the department and said 46 administrative inspections of treasuries have been conducted during last three months in Kashmir division. He said out of 474 audit paras pending against treasuries, 143 paras have been dropped, leaving a balance of 331 audit paras.
