J&K out of contest in NZ Deaf Cricket | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 03: Losing all the three ties in the league round, host Jammu and Kashmir left with little chances of reaching the final of the ongoing 5th North Zone Cricket Tournament for Deaf at MA Stadium, here today. On the other hand, Delhi has made it to the final with Haryana being other team qualifying team. Losing their tie against Delhi today, Punjab’s chances of reaching the final seems bleak. Earlier, J&K lost both of their league matches played against Delhi and Haryana. In all, four teams are taking part in this league-cum-knockout tournament. In the first match of the day, J&K lost to Delhi by seven wickets. Batting first, after winning the toss, J&K made 83 runs losing all their wickets in 15 overs. MS was top scorer with 24 runs while Surinder contributed 14. From Delhi, Fahimudin claimed three wickets, followed by Rohit, Rupesh and Azar shared two each. Batting second, Delhi chased the total in 11 overs losing only three wickets. Shunty played fine innings of 26 runs, followed by Fehimudin, who added 19. From J&K, Kuldeep and Vivek shared one wicket each. In the second league tie, J&K lost to Haryana by 78 runs. Earlier batting first, after winning the toss, Haryana set a target of 140 runs for the loss of seven wickets in the allotted 15 overs, which, in reply, J&K could not chase and the whole side bowled out for just 62 runs.
Punjab loses to Delhi by 55 runs
Meanwhile, in another match of the day, Delhi registered a big 55 runs win over Punjab to confirm their berth for the tomorrow’s final. After winning the toss and batting first, Delhi set a big target of 166 runs in given 15 overs. Fehimudin and Shiva were highest scorers with 59 and 51 runs respectively. From Punjab, Gurbaksh, Tirth and Surinder took one wicket each. In reply, Punjab could make only 111 runs losing three wickets. Hitesh and Surinder were main contributors with 35 and 24 runs respectively. Sherkhan, Vicky and Rohit shared one wicket each from Punjab. In today’s matches, Inspector General of Home Guards, Gulzar Singh Slathia was special guest, who encouraged the players. Today’s matches were officiated by Shashi (senior), Shashi (junior), Yogesh and Narsh Kumar.
