| Awareness programme on Environment held | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Feb 3: The Department of Environment and Remote Sensing on the eve of World Wetland Day on 2ndFebruary 2011, organized an awareness programme about Environment that constitutes healthy forests subsequently Wet lands.
The main function organized at Surinsar Lake on the theme “ Forests and Wet Lands” and the slogan was Forests for Water and Wetlands. 2011 is also being celebrated as the International year of Forests.
About 700 students of schools from Surinsar participated in various competitions viz quiz, painting, slogan writing and symposium. Besides this a green march was also taken by the students displaying the placards depicting different slogans based on wetlands and environment.
Vinod Kuamr Raina, Regional Director presided over the function. Besides all the teaching staff of the entire participant schools were present on the occasion.
Kartar Chand Angurana and Irshlad Massom Mir, were the judges of the competitions.
Govt Hr Sec School Surinsar won 12 prizes in symposium, quiz, painting and slogan writing competitions.
Govt Middle school Surinsar won 5 prizes. Syarovar Academy Surinsar won 9 prizes and Saint John Convent School won 3 prizes.
Mala Singh of the Department was stage secretary. The Environment Department also distributed the publicity material on environment along the students and schools
