| Tourism body seeks full implementation of ban on buses in Rly stn | | |
Jammu, November 10 Welcoming the prohibitory order imposed by Jammu Railway Station Authorities against the entry of J&K SRTC buses and private luxury coaches inside the railway station premises, for dropping and picking up passengers, Jammu Paryatan Vikas Mandal has appealed the state administration and the police to fully cooperate with the station authorities in strictly implementing this order. A meeting of the Jammu Prayatan Vikas Mandal held here toady, under the Chairmanship of Ravi Mahajan expressed their gratitude to the Jammu Railway Station Authorities for rising to the occasion by taking this bold step, with a view to tighten the security in the premises, where lakhs of people visit daily and can become soft targets of the militants. While acknowledging that this step will cause some inconvenience to the Vaishno Devi pilgrims and passengers to Kashmir who in the past boarded buses right at the station itself, JPVM has observed that this will help the traders of Jammu, as the visitors shall have now to board the vehicles at the general bus stand Jammu and thus pay visit to the city. Speaking on the occasion Kuldeep Vahi, President of the Mandal said that business in Jammu city is facing a serious threat after the rail line is extended to Katra. While this step is in the overall interest of the state as a whole and will go to facilitate the pilgrims, government should pays serious consideration to the concern of traders in Jammu city and take steps to protect their interests. Mr Ravi Mahajan demanded that the railway station premises and surroundings should be highly beautified, to give a pleasant look to the visitors to Jammu. All encroachments around Jammu railway station should be removed, entry and exit point should be widened and metalled and properly maintained, besides a welcome gate should be built there. Inderjeet Khajuria, General Secretary of the Mandal demanded that plying of all unauthorized buses and deluxe coaches on various routes in Jammu area should be strictly prohibited and strong action taken against the defaulters. The buses should not be allowed to be parked anywhere and everywhere as it is happening today. Others who attended the meeting included Ashwani Sharma, President General Bus Stand Shopkeepers Association, Jagdev Singh Jamwal President Trikuta Complex Traders Association, M.C. Padha, President Tourist Trade Employees Federation and Pawan Gupta, Gen Sec AJHLA.
