11/10/2006 10:41:23 PM

Jammu, November 10
Welcoming the prohibitory order imposed by
Jammu Railway Station Authorities against the entry of J&K SRTC buses
and private luxury coaches inside the railway station premises, for
dropping and picking up passengers, Jammu Paryatan Vikas Mandal has
appealed the state administration and the police to fully cooperate
with the station authorities in strictly implementing this order.
A meeting of the Jammu Prayatan Vikas Mandal held here toady, under
the Chairmanship of Ravi Mahajan expressed their gratitude to the
Jammu Railway Station Authorities for rising to the occasion by taking
this bold step, with a view to tighten the security in the premises,
where lakhs of people visit daily and can become soft targets of the
militants. While acknowledging that this step will cause some
inconvenience to the Vaishno Devi pilgrims and passengers to Kashmir
who in the past boarded buses right at the station itself, JPVM has

shall have now to board the vehicles at the general bus stand Jammu
and thus pay visit to the city.

that business in Jammu city is facing a serious threat after the rail
line is extended to Katra. While this step is in the overall interest
of the state as a whole and will go to facilitate the pilgrims,
government should pays serious consideration to the concern of traders
in Jammu city and take steps to protect their interests. Mr Ravi
Mahajan demanded that the railway station premises and surroundings
should be highly beautified, to give a pleasant look to the visitors
to Jammu. All encroachments around Jammu railway station should be
removed, entry and exit point should be widened and metalled and
properly maintained, besides a welcome gate should be built there.
Inderjeet Khajuria, General Secretary of the Mandal demanded that
plying of all unauthorized buses and deluxe coaches on various routes
in Jammu area should be strictly prohibited and strong action taken
against the defaulters. The buses should not be allowed to be parked
anywhere and everywhere as it is happening today.

General Bus Stand Shopkeepers Association, Jagdev Singh Jamwal
