Mercenaries, CPI-M, CPI, LJSP, TDP, RLD, RSP, FW, News X join hands | | | NEHA EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 3: The leaders like Prakash Karat, AB Bardhan, Ram Vilas Paswan, Debabrata Biswas, Abani Roy, Shahid Siddique, Danish Ali, Namo Nageshwar Rao, to mention only a few, used the platform to attack India and the Indian Army and paramilitary forces from right and left and identify themselves completely with those in Kashmir who denounces India and everything Indian in Kashmir in downright language. They didn't even once question what they had been doing in Kashmir since decades to bloody and convulse the state's political scene or disturb its socio-religious and political equilibrium. They didn't even once criticize those responsible for the exodus of the Kashmiri Hindus from the Valley. Nor did they even once talk about the miserable plight of the minorities in Kashmir. They blamed the Government of India and the Army and paramilitary forces for everything that had happened in the Kashmir Valley. Nor did they say that the problem in Kashmir was essentially communal and that it had been Pakistan that had been accentuating the problem in Kashmir for promoting its own geo-political interests in the region. On the contrary, they defended Pakistan and declared that what had been happening in Kashmir was an indigenous uprising against the oppressive Indian State. Some of the major statements, which were highly controversial and provocative by any standard, made by these leaders were: (1) "Withdraw security forces from the state." (1) "Repeal the draconian" provisions of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA)." (3) "Generate employment opportunities in Kashmir." (4) "Army has become the face of Indian State for Kashmiris (read Kashmiri Muslims) and this has to be changed." (5) "Everybody feels proud when we showcase our military, their weapons at the Republic Day parade. We tell the world this is our strength. We are giving a signal to the world that don't mess with us. But how will you feel if the same Army with all those weapons and tanks start a parade in front of your house, your village everyday the whole year. You won't find it interesting if the Army conducts flag march in your village every day." (6) "Bullets and tanks are for enemies but it is now used for targetting our own people." (7) "Kashmir has been called the heaven on earth. But now it has turned hellish and the responsibility squarely rests at the Government's doorsteps." (8) "You put the Sher-e-Kashmir (Lion of Kashmir Sheikh Abdullah) in a cage (jail). Mistrust evolved. Then you sent the Army to every village. Due to this, there evolved a sentiment for freedom...You have the tongue to speak then why respond with bullets." (9) "Kashmir issue needs to be solved politically as there is a denial of democracy and autonomy in the State. Several promises were made but all of them were broken. The protesters in the Valley should not be dealt the same way the terrorists were dealt with. Kashmir issue cannot be resolved unless you involve Kashmiris and till you ignore them, you will not be able to solve it." (10) "In the last two years, there was less militant violence as well as infiltration from Pakistan. So there is a need to withdraw the AFSPA from the State." (11) "Marches to Lal Chowk on Republic Day to hoist the tricolour…raise tension in the State." (12) "There is a need for a change in perception of Kashmiri youths. All those who come from the State (read Kashmir Valley) are seen with suspicion. This has to change." (13) "There is a raj of bunker in Kashmir and Kashmiris are living in suffocation." (14) "Some people consider Kashmir's lakes and mountains as India's but they don't consider Kashmiris as 'one of our own'. We will have to provide justice to them (read Kashmiri Muslims)." (15) "The Kashmir problem is a long standing issue" and there is the "need for a continuous dialogue and demilitarisation of the State." (16) "Kashmir is a political issue and the people in the State are not 'begging for money' but demanding their rights and it is injustice not to give them their rights." (17) "Kashmiris were not given an opportunity to live in peace and harmony. They are demanding just peace. Why are we showing our faces against their just demands?" And, (18) Hold "an 'honest' dialogue…to restore normalcy in the State." As it was not necessary to catalogue the dangerous implications of what the so-called opinion makers and experts said at Bangkok on January 30, as the meaning of what they said was crystal clear. Similarly, it is not necessary to reflect on the grave evils that would follow on the acceptance of what thee non-Congress and non-BJP leaders said in Delhi on January 1st, as the meaning of each and every statement that was made in Delhi was more than clear. The crux of the matter is that several undesirable elements have joined hands in order to cause an irreparable damage to the country's paramount interests. However, the question to be asked is: What are the Congress and the BJP doing to controvert the pernicious influence of what was said in Bangkok and Delhi? They must come out openly against those who are giving dangerous respectability to the politics of separatism and communalism as being practiced in Kashmir by regressive forces and make it loud and clear that no concession whatever would be given to Kashmiri secessionists and Pakistan. This is a must to stem the rot and isolate forces inimical to India. (Concluded) |
