Go Jagmohan way, Omar….

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 3: E-governance which has been on the agenda of gadget guru Chief Minister Omar Abdullah from day 1 of his assuming the office may be missing from his personal official chamber but he has made it a point to take it to every other official corner of the state.
Omar's justifies this by saying that e-governance would ensure transparency in government functioning. He reiterated this today while launching web portal for e-tendering essentially required for roads to be taken up under PMGSY. Omar said that it would ensure transparency and also restrict chances of corruption. He announced that the departments of R&B and Power would be brought under e-tendering and e-governance as a vanguard measure.
However, one is forced to look back at the Governor Jagmohan era of 90's, referred even by his detractors as golden era of development in Jammu and Kashmir. He ensured transparency during a period when none knew about the concept of e-governance and there were institutions of accountability and information as are now.
Jagmohan knew that it is the mantris, bureaucracy and the staff associated with it which needs to be kept under constant check. He knew of the bottlenecks and hence, preferred official activism over scratching head on the pile of files written and signed by Babus, stating that everything is right and development is going on at the highest pace.
Jagmohan took to task the corrupt, inefficient and lethargic officers. He would off and on take serious meetings, implore upon the officers to refrain resorting to corrupt practices and then, review the progress on developmental works as a matter of routine. As far as Omar is concerned, he should look at 9/11 which shocked the modern world and realize that corrupt know ways and means. They need not to be taught. If offices can be reduced to ashes, hard disks can be corrupted much easily and safely.
