Excise commercial taxes complex to be ready by April: Rather

SRINAGAR, Feb 4: Newly constructed Excise Commercial Taxes Complex near Rambagh, Srinagar shall be commissioned after two months.
Completed at an estimated cost of Rs. 32 crore, the complex shall have all the officers of Excise and Commercial Taxes departments under one roof for convenience of the traders and general public. The complex shall also have a separate Bar Room and a modern Auditorium. This was stated by the Minister for Finance Abdul Rahim Rather during inspection of the complex conducted today to take stock of the pace of construction work.
Minister was accompanied by Commissioner, Commercial Taxes department and concerned officers. Earlier, the Minister chaired periodic review meeting of the Commercial Taxes department, Kashmir Division and enjoined upon the officers not only to achieve revenue targets but exceed as well within the stipulated time frame.
Rather instructed for training the ministerial staff in handling computers since the department has launched computerisation of tax administration. He commended the department for increase in the revenue realisation despite odds during the first few months of the current fiscal.
Meeting, among others was attended by the Commissioner Commercial Taxes department, Khawja Bashir Ahmad, Additional Commissioner, Commercial Taxes department, Kashmir Division, Mushtaq Ahmad Kazmi and Financial Commissioner, Commercial Taxes, R.K. Koul.
Khawaja Bashir in his opening remarks informed that Commercial Taxes department has realised a revenue of Rs. 1856 crore up to ending December 2010 against Rs. 1540 crore realised during the corresponding period last year, marking an increase of Rs. 316 crore. In Kashmir division, revenue to the tune of Rs. 460.61 crore has been realised up to October 2010 against a target of Rs. 688 crore registering an achievement of 67 percent.
