Shahzaad hits out at state government’s failure to curb corruption | | | EARLY TIMES Rajouri : Rajouri : Expressing strong resentment over the unchecked level of corruption in the administration senior PDP leader Shahzad Khan criticised the present NC led coalition government for its failure to curb the disease of corruption that is slowly eating the state from all sides. In a meeting with his party men at Rajouri, Shahzad stressed on the urgent requirement of making J&K a corruption free state. He said that time and again the NC government has duped the people of J&K through their sweet talks. The deliberate delay in the appointment of heads of Accountability Commission, State Information Commission, J&K Board of School Education, etc is a living example of the duplicity of the NC government. Shahzad said that the government deliberately ignored the Vigilance clearance of G.R.Sufi who was unanimously accepted to be the CIC. He further said that earlier the appointment of Wajahat Habibullah was delayed and now it is repeated again. Lambasting the present scenario in the state administration wherein common man is suffering due to nepotism and red tapism, Khan said that there is urgent need to break the nexus between the political set up and the bureaucracy that is encouraging corrupt practices at all levels. The two institutions viz. Vigilance Organization and the Accountability Commission that are there to curb corruption at the levels of government functionaries and political leaders respectively are not as functional as they should be. The irony is that the latter is headless and defunct. Stressing on the importance of the RTI Act, he said that it is unfortunate that despite having the tool in the hands of the people they are hapless due to the negligence of the government. The functioning of the RTI is must for bringing in transparency in the working of the government so as to curb corruption at all levels but it is regrettable that despite so many years of its incorporation, it is yet to be actually implemented on grounds.
