Govt treating militancy victims from Jammu as B-grade citizens: Mir

Jammu, Feb 5: Tehreek-e-Insaf (TeI) an organisation representing the militancy victims of Jammu region today accused the government of discrimination and treating them as B-grade citizens.
Addressing a press conference, chairman of party, Mohammad Farooq Mir (ex-MLA) said that despite the rulings made by Supreme Court and later a notice issued by the supreme court to Jammu and Kashmir Government through the state's Relief Commissioner to provide relief to the migrants of Jammu province at par with Kashmiri migrants, the direction has been ignored.
“State has ignored the rulings of SC and nothing has been done for the migrants of Jammu. The State and the Central Governments had not implemented the Supreme Court's order, and this had resulted in starvation of at least 12,000 migrants at various camps and cities hailing from Rajouri, Poonch, Reasi, Ramban, Doda,Kishtwar and Udhampur”, Mir said.


He said that hundreds of cases under SRO-43 are still pending in government departments and instead of providing justice to the affected families administration has back stabbed the militancy victims of Jammu province.
“They have issued an official letter to District Development Commissioners on 27-1-2009 having official letter. No:-GAD(MTG) 27-1-2009 in which it has been mention that " An affected family ( whose member is killed by terrorists) if having income more-then Rs.5000 will not get Rs 5 lakh as compensation under provisions of SRO-43.
Speaking on the occasion, Mohamad Aslam Kohli, president the organisation said that about 8 lakh people got affected due to militancy in the region but successive governments have failed them.
He regretted that Central Government is slowly surrendering before the militancy while ignoring the nationalist people.
Bali Bhagat (ex-MLA) and vice-chairman said that militancy victims have been treated as second class citizens by the authorities sHighlighting the demands Vice Chairman of Tehreek-e-Insaf Bali Bhagat, (ex-MLA).
Bhagat demanded constitution of a high level committee to assess the losses suffered by the militancy hit people of Kishtwar, Doda, Ramban, Reasi, Kathua, Rajouri and Poonch districts.
He also demanded special economic package be provided to these people and reservations be given to the wards in the educational institutions especially in professional colleges. Bhagat urged the government to clear all the pending cases of SRO-43 and SPOs be regularized who have played an important role in elimination of militancy from the state.
