Jammu district lifts overall trophy in Taekwondo

JAMMU, Feb 05: Jammu district clinched the overall trophy in the 7th State Wushu Championship which was organised by Jammu and Kashmir Wushu Association at Indoor Complex, MA Stadium, here today.
Jammu boys and girls dominated in all the age groups to clinch maximum medals. Majority of the participants were there in sub-junior and junior groups of below 16 years of age.
On the basis of their performance, district Budgam and Bandipore remained runners-up and second runners-up.
Meanwhile, Bhanu Pratap of Jammu secured gold in senior boys below 56 kg weight category beating Raj Singh in the final. Third place was shared by Asif of Srinagar and Mohinder of Jammu after losing in the semi-finals.
In senior girls below 48 kg group, Sheetal of Jammu defeated Aisha, again of Jammu in the final to bag gold. Deepika bagged bronze.
In all, 700 boys and girls drawn from 14 districts of the state took part in this three-day competition.
Inspector General of J&K Police, Navin Aggarwal was chief guest while IGP PHQ, S Owais presided. IGP Traffic, HK Lohia, former MLA, Mohd Sayeed Akhnoon, Farooq Ahmed, Rajiv Khajuria, Toufeeq Khan and Ranjeet Kalra were guests of honour.
In his address to the gathering, chairman of the Association, HK Lohia briefed about the achievements of the game at state, national and international level.

SENIOR BOYS: Below 56 kg: Bhanu Pratap, Jammu, Ist; Raj Singh (Jammu), 2nd; Asif (Srinagar) and Mohinder (Jammu), joint third. Below 60 kg: Atul (Jammu), Ist; Amrit Raj (Jammu, 2nd; Jatinder (Jammu) and Deepak Kapoor (Jammu), joint third. Below 65 kg: Rameez (Srinagar), Ist; Pradeep (Jammu), 2nd; Younis (Budgam) and Ajay (Jammu), joint 3rd. Below 70 kg: Aijaz (Budgam), Ist; Younis (Srinagar), 2nd; Fayaz (Bandipore) and Himanshu (Jammu), 3rd. Open: Farooz Ahmed Malik (Budgam), Ist; Rameez (Budgam), 2nd; Rajesh (Jammu) and Jamsheed (Bandipore), joint 3rd.
