Pilgrim, heritage tourism of Poonch, Rajouri being prioritized: Jora | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 5: Minister for Tourism Nawang Rigzin Jora, has said the tourism potential of Rajouri and Poonch districts is being explored fully to boost the economy of the area, with special thrust on development of scenic spots and face-lifting of heritage and pilgrim places of the area. This was stated by the Minister while reviewing the physical and financial achievements registered by Tourism Development Authorities of Poonch and Rajouri districts at a high level meeting here today. Jora said that there is tremendous scope for promotion of pilgrim, adventure and heritage tourism in Rajouri, adding that an amount of Rs. 8.45 crore have been expended for development and creation of tourism infrastructure in the area since the inception of Tourism Development Authority Rajouri. Minister said that project reports worth Rs. 22.84 crore have been submitted to Union Ministry of Tourism under Destination Development Scheme for promoting tourism activities in the district. He said after receiving approval from the Centre the virgin tourism potential of the area would be tapped fully and infrastructure facilities be upgraded for the visiting tourists. Chief Executive officers, Poonch and Rajouri Development Authorities presented power point presentations depicting physical and financial achievements registered by them so far in these districts for promotion of tourism.
