Seminar on ‘Service Sector’ held at JU | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Udhampur, Feb 5: A day-long seminar on ‘Service Sector in India’ was organized by Department of Commerce and Management and Internal Quality Assurance Cell of college in collaboration with Department of Lifelong Learning, University of Jammu. Principal of the college, Nutan Kumar Resutra inaugurated the seminar and presided over the first technical session. In his speech, he congratulated the organizers and hoped that the scholarly deliberations would certainly benefit the students of the college. Prof. Neetu Andotra, Head Department of Commerce, University of Jammu and Prof Dipankar Sen Gupta from Department of Economics, University of Jammu were the key note speakers. Prof. Andotra spoke on ‘Service Positioning’ and meticulously traced the reasons for the growth of service sector in India. “Tourism and travel, financial service, telecommunication, health tourism, information technology, retailing etc. were the growing areas in service sector. Strategies for service positioning include promoting, people, managing quality, service differentiation, building trust among the customers etc.”, she said. Prof Gupta spoke on “Liberalization of Higher Education in Context of WTO” and said that India’s image has tremendously changed in the recent past as this country is being transformed into knowledge society. “Higher Education sector as service has the potential to contribute immensely to India’s economy. We’ll have to upgrade the quality of our product to meet the growing demand,” he said. Bhanu Pratap and Ankita from JU satellite campuses of Kathua and Udhampur and students also presented papers. Earlier, the seminar began with lighting the traditional lamp and welcome address by Dr Pooja HOD Commerce of the college. Prof. Sudhir Singh, Convener Internal Quality Assurance Cell of the college proposed the formal vote of thanks. Pallavi conducted the proceeding.
