Shouting anti-Public health engineering (PHE) slogans, the protesters alleged that the villagers were facing acute shortage of drinking water since last week. They said that the villages are getting water from Lift Irrigation Scheme Dupatyar, but due to shortage of electricity, villages are facing shortage of drinking water. “We’re facing acute shortage of water from several months. However, since last week, the situation has worsened. Taps have run dry,”Rayees Ahmad Shah, a protester said. “Despite paying taxes on time, we fail to understand why water supply is not being restored,” he added. He said despite dozens of round to the PHE office, failed to put anend to the miseries of the people. Additional Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, Nissar Hussain Wani said that the demand of the villagers was genuine. He said that PHE officials have been asked to provide uninterrupted water supply to the villages. “We know they’re suffering. Their demand is justified. We’ll take all the steps to redress their grievances,” he added.
