JPPF takes out torch light procession for local VC CUJ | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu Feb 5: Jammu Province People’s Forum, which had been spearheading the movement against appointment of Prof. Amitabh Mattoo as first Vice Chancellor of Central University Jammu, today held a torch light demonstration in Jammu city, to press the demand for early appointment of a local academician as Vice Chancellor Central University Jammu. The forum welcomed the latest development of Prof Mattoo himself resigning and declining to take up as VC CU Jammu. Speaking at the protest rally the Chairman of the forum, Paviter Singh termed this development as the moral victory of the people of Jammu who gave united battle for last over one year against the appointment of an anti-Jammu, Kashmir-centric and separatists and terrorist friendly Prof Mattoo as VC CU Jammu. He said that after the victory of Jammu people who gave united fight over Amar Nath Yatra land row in 2008, resignation of Prof. Mattoo has come as a repeat performance by the nationalist people of Jammu, who as one man stood against the wrong step of the Central Government in appointing Prof. Mattoo at the post. Speaking on the occasion the senior leader of the forum Inderjeet Khajuria congratulated and thanked two MPs from Jammu region, Ch. Lal Singh and Madan Lal Sharma for raising the issue and conveying the sentiments of Jammu people to the Union HRD Ministry against Mattoo’s appointment, which has contributed in the present development. Another senior leader of the forum, Narayan Singh demanded that a local academician from out of the panel submitted by the HRD Ministry should now be appointed as VC Jammu without any further delay so that the university becomes functional without loss of another academic session. Giving the call to the people of Jammu for unity and for launching united struggle against all injustices, the JPPF leaders said the forum will be fighting for all the regional causes of Jammu. They appealed the people in general and organizations of traders, students, scholars, social and cultural bodies to keep on supporting them in the fight for justice and fulfillment of the regional aspirations of Jammu. The forum announced that their struggle will continue now for appointment of an academician of high caliber belonging to Jammu region to be appointed as VC. Now onward they will intensify their struggle for this cause and carry it to the rural areas as well.
