Unjustifiable police action against Canon Bar waiters is repeat of Royal Bar incident | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 5: Forty one days after the unjustifiable and the highly condemnable Royal Bar incident in which police had taken side of drunken goons and booked innocent waiters, two Canon Bar employees were last night arrested in a fabricated case. Canon Bar episode at Ware House is exactly repeat of the Royal Bar incident. In both the cases, innocent waiters were booked and the accused were set free with impunity from law. Both these incidents are perfect examples of "police raaj" in the winter capital. Police acted like an unlawful authority in both the cases. Their action is totally unjustifiable, unreasonable, illegal, unfounded and needs to be condemned in the strongest words by one and all. Agitated over last night's arrest of Canon Bar waiters -- Mohan and Rinku -- for no fault of theirs, Ware House shopkeepers today gathered at Bikram Chowk and held a strong anti-police demonstration. They demanded action against the erring cops and a probe into the incident. Talking to media persons, Bikram Chowk Shopkeepers' Welfare Association president Ashu and chairman Teerth Ram Sharma accused police of unnecessarily harassing the Canon Bar employees. About the last night's incident, they said it was unfortunate that instead of listening to the law-abiding bar employees, police supported the drunk doctors namely Dr. Sunny Singh and Dr.Saurav, both of whom created a scene inside the bar. Canon Bar manager Rajiv alias Ranju said the two waiters were booked after they approached Ware House police post with a complaint against the two inebriated customers. He said the two drunkards, who claimed to be doctors, came to the bar at about 1 pm. "After they were drunk, they started talking loudly and shifting themselves from one table to the other, causing inconvenience to other customers," he added. He said that when some customers complained against them at about 5 pm, staff requested them to behave properly and not shift from one table to the other. On this, they allegedly manhandled the waiters and said the latter could not cause them any harm as they were doctors. This led to heated exchanges between the two sides. After footing the bill of Rs 449, the two drunkards went out of the bar and spoke to someone on their cell phone. They were soon joined by seven to eight more youth. Sensing trouble, a waiter then went to the nearby Ware House police post with a complaint against the two drunken customers. Ranju said the cops at the police post told the waiter that he would not perform his lawful duty because the bar manager had not obliged him few days back. He said even as the two drunken youth and their accomplices showered choicest abuses on them, police picked up Mohan and Rinku for no fault of theirs. Height of the highhandedness is that the two doctors, according to police sources have in their complaint accused the waiters who have been serving drinks to the customers since last more than 10 years of abusive behavior, theft and manhandling. The inebriated doctors have accused waiters of snatching Rs. 300 along with a mobile set of Samsung Company costing around Rs. 10, 000 from them. This is contrary to what the regular customers speak about the employees especially waiters of the bar. They praise them for their honesty, integrity and straightforwardness. None of the regulars complained of indiscipline or bad behavior. However, police preferred drunk Doctor's version. No action was taken against the guilty customers and they were allowed to leave the spot. Ranju said that it was a typical case of police booking the complainant and freeing the accused. He urged the higher police officers to intervene in the matter and do the justice. Others who spoke on the occasion included Bhasin Kumar, Rajeev Sharma, Raj Kumar, Neetu, Mohan Lal Dogra, Rinku Kumar, Ravinder Kumar, Tara Chand, Madan Lal, Raj Kumar, B.R.Sharma, Sardari Lal, Pummy Kumar and Sudesh Kumar. In the December 24 night incident outside Royal Bar at Gole Market, Gandhinagar, here last year, in which police misused their authority and erroneously booked three bar staffers in a "stab" case, which actually did not take place, is the glaring example of how police fabricate cases against innocent citizens. The arrest of three Royal Bar staffers -- Jagdish Singh, Ravi Kumar and Jaidev Singh alias Kaka -- and then labelling them as stabbers was totally fallacious and groundless. As a matter of fact, no stabbing incident had taken place outside the bar that night.Like the Royal Bar incident, everything seemed to be pre-planned at Canon Bar too as police wanted to defame the bar, its management and staffers, "all of whom are law-abiding citizens and not involved in any police case. Canon bar manager had demanded a high-level probe into the last night's incident to punish the guilty cops. |
