Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 6: National Mazdoor Conference (NMC) has appealed Prime Minister to release pending installment of D.A due from January this year at 12 percent in favour of the employees of central as well as the state government in view of increasing inflation and price hike of essential commodities.
Addressing a largely attended NMC workers rally at BC Park here today, President Subash Shastri while giving facts and figures said that price index which was 5.89% in June 30, 2010 now has increased to 12.59 percent in December 31, 2010. He said the rate of compensation was revised over six month one in January and in July every year based on average of the consumer price index for previous months.
This would be the 11th biannual increase since the recommendation of the 6th pay commission which was accepted by the Central govt. in August 14, 2008, he added. Continuing its decline for six successive months, Shastri said that the purchasing power of Rs. fell by 40 Paise to 23.81 Paise in December 2010. The purchasing power of Rs. has been further going down since April last year.
Shastri said that prices of all essential commodities have going up considerably; there was no justification on the part of the Govt, for withholding this installment for their employees and pensioners. Shastri has also urged Dr. Singh to declare Jammu and Srinagar as B-1 cities of state. He said that giving B-1 status to both capital cities would ensure more flow of funds for upgrading infrastructures and modernizing civic amenities of these fast expanding cities.
He said since cost of living also increased in Srinagar and Jammu, it will benefit salaried class with increasing HRA and CCA. He said for being given B-1 status both cities have required norms including population. Pleading for sanctioning five thousand crores as special package to the state to meet the expenditure on implementation of the pay penal report by the J&K and Shastri also requested Dr. Singh to personal intervene in the matter and grant this package at the earliest.
Those who attended the rally included Ashok Khajuria, Mohammed Shafi, Surinder Kumar, Vinod Kumar, Sham lal Sharma, Romesh Chander, Ram Pal Sharma, Kuldeep Sharma and others.
