Charak conducts city tour, inspects development works

JAMMU, NOVEMBER 10
Minister for Roads and Buildings Mr. Gulchain Singh Charak today inspected Janipur-Ambgharota road under construction to ascertain the authenticity of complaint made by people regarding the substandard work of macdamization in certain parts of the road.
Mr. Charak also visited various areas of Jammu city which include Mubarak Mandi, Dogra Chowk, Raghunath Bazar, Residency road and Shahidi Chowk and took stock of the macdamization work in these areas.
During his visit to Janipur, Ambgharota the Minister was informed that the road has developed defects in certain parts of macdamization due to the recent rains and hailstorm when the work was in progress. The portion of the macdamization work done has already been rejected by the R&B and ordered relaying.
Mr. Charak directed the R&B department to take action against the contractor under rules and agreement contract provisions. He also directed concerned authorities to set right the defected works at the cost of the contract company.
Mr. Charak also visited proposed office for MMH Society in the old High Court building and desired that the first meeting shall be held in Mubarak Mandi premises. He directed the concerned to renovate the green hall as well as bath room which would be used by the office bearers of the society.
As a follow up action to his order during October 2006 for face lifting of Jammu city, he conducted visit from Dogra Chowk to interior city.He was informed that on construction of the said road Rs. 36 lakh has been incurred till date.
At Sunder Singh Gurudwara road he directed that Municipal Corporation would be asked to ensure that there should be no commercial activity on the edge of the road as it leads to vehicular traffic jams.
Mr. Charak also visited Raghunath Bazar to take stock of the laying of tiles on the footpaths. Rs. 128 lakh are being incurred in the city for beautification. He said that 30 percent of the work has been done.
Mr. Charak cautioned the engineers that their should no compromise while executing development works and use of standard material in the development works. He said there should not be any complacency in this behalf.
Senior offices of the R&B were accompanied the Minister during his visit to city.
