Govt likely to reduce vacation duration in schools: Peerzada

Jammu, Feb 6: The government is contemplating to reduce the vacation period in all state educational institutions to increase the yearly class working days to enable the students to complete their syllabus well in time.
This was stated by Minister for Education, Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed at an annual day function of Naveen Vidya Mandir High School.
Former minister Mula Ram, Board of School Education Secretary, Dr Sheikh Bashir Ahmed, Chief Education Officer, N R Dingra , students, parents and school staff, besides prominent citizens of the area were present at the function.
Listing the reforms introduced to further perk up the education standards in the state, the Minister said that to meet the demands of the modern academic trends there was a need to have more working days. He said cutting down the duration of the vacation would help in broadening the scope of curricular and co-curricular activities. He said the state has set a goal for achieving hundred percent literacy for which several reformative measures have been taken. He said the education system is being revised and revitalized to make education available to every part of the state and enable the students to compete at national level.
Minister said that during past some years the results in the government schools have greatly improved and the parents now prefer to send their wards to government run schools. In this regard, he gave due credit to the dedication and devotion of teachers fraternity and hoped that they will continue their missionary spirit to further improve the quality of education in their schools.
Earlier, students of the school presented a colourful cultural programme depicting composite culture of the state and conveying a message of mutual brotherhood.
The Minister also distributed prizes among the students who have excelled in academic and co-curricular activities in the state.
Responding to demand of the locals, the Minister directed the CEO to submit the proposal for upgradation of Primary School functioning in Gujjar Mohalla, Paloura.
