Development of backward communities on priority: Gul | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Feb 6:- Jammu and Kashmir Gujjar and Bakerwal Cell of National Conference organized a one-day conference at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan, here, today. Thousands of Gujjar and Bakerwal community members across the Jammu region attended the day long convention. Advisor to Chief Minister, Mubarak Gul, Minister of State for Tourism, Nasir Aslam Wani, Political Advisor to Chief Minister, Devinder Singh Rana, Vice Chairman, Pahari Advisory Board, Mushtaq Ahmad Bukhari, Vice Chairman, Kissan Development Board, Thakur Rachpal Singh, Provincial President National Conference, Rattan Lal Gupta, Provincial President (NC) Women Wing, Vijay Lakshmi Dutta, senior NC leader Muhammad Aslam Goni and Gujjar leader Choudhary Haroon Rashid addressed the gathering. On this occasion, the Advisor to Chief Minister Mubarak Gul, said the government has formulated a comprehensive calendar for equitable development of all the regions and implementation of various centrally and state sponsored welfare schemes meaningfully so that all facilities are provided to them at their doorsteps. He said the government is also laying special focus on the backward communities and those living in far flung areas. Gul said that endeavours of the coalition government are to eradicate poverty incidences in rural areas by promoting economic activities and bring these at par with towns and cities with regard to the availability of basic amenities. Referring to the development of border areas, Gul said that Rs 100 crore under Border Area Development Programme (BADP) earmarked for the year 2010-11 is under implementation to augment basic amenities in border areas. He said the programme is under implementation in 44 blocks of the State, including four blocks each in border districts of Poonch and Rajouri. The Minister of State for Tourism, Nassir Aslam Wani, said that the last two years of the coalition government has created a shining example of working in tandem and oneness, adding that the endeavours of the government is to improve the political and developmental scenario in the State but transformation of a society, which has witnessed 20 years of disturbance and 60 years of political upheaval, could not be achieved through a single stroke. Aslam said though law and order situation hampered the smooth development process during last summer, a major dent has been made in bringing transparency in the working of the government offices, adding that the government has tried its best to reach out people in every area and ensure holistic development of villages through various schemes, especially MGNREGA” and ‘SKEWPY’. Responding to the demands of the community, the Minister said the matter for providing Below Poverty Line (BPL) ration cards to the nomads would be taken up with the Chief Minister. Provincial Vice President Ch. Haroon Rashid, demanded the rehabilitation of Gujjar and Bakarwal community by creating eco-villages on the pattern of Uttranchal and other north eastern states.
