Two hospitalised after alleged police torture | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT KATHUA, Feb 06: Two persons were today admitted to the Hiranagar sub-district hospital here after they became unconscious due to the alleged police torture. They were identified as Pawan, son of Joginder, and Neeraj, son of Bittoo, both residents of Kote Punnu. Official sources said the trouble started over the alleged abduction of Rajni, daughter of Jagdish, by one Ashwani. Rajni's six family members today went to Ashwani's house to know about her whereabouts. In the house, they encountered cops -- Ashok Bhagat and MOhan Lal -- and had heated exchanges with them. However, at the instance of the cops, who were related to Ashwani, Rajbagh police later lifted Rajni's six family members and removed them to the police station. Quoting the victims, sources said all the six were given a sound beating. Pawan and Bittoo had to be hospitalised after their condition became serious, the sources added. DSP Karanjeet Singh, however, denied the allegations. He claimed that the six persons had allegedly abducted Ashwani's father Aman Singh from the latter's house and were wounded after their vehicle turned turtle on the way. He said while Pawan and Bittoo were admitted to hospital, the other four had been arrested. A case was registered against them, he added.
