2/7/2011 8:53:39 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Feb 7: Despit tall claims for providing quality education in rural areas of the state, however, these seems to be on paper only .
One such example is Government Girls Middle School Rattian, which fall under Miran Sahib zone.
The school was established in 1932 as a middle school but till today there is not any kind of progress in the school and its system. There is a shortage of staff and the students are suffering. The students of eighth class don’t have their Math and Science teachers. The examinations of the eighth class are on way and there is no one in the school to properly guide them.
This type of negligence of the education department will badly affect the studies and the results of the said school.
According to the sources, the posts for the school were eleven but only six teachers were regulating the school with one principal. Most of the teachers of the said school are attached to the other schools. It is also facing the shortage of staff as one teacher is attending at least two classes in combined mode. Most of the students in the school belong to the poor families who can’t afford the private coaching for their subjects.
Sources said that the last year strength of the students was 200 but with its decreasing reputation ,only 95 students are admitted this year.
With its sinking education system, the premises of the school are also under the threat of the drinkers, gamblers and criminals. As the school having no boundary around it which is an open invitation for the gamblers, drinkers and animals too.
“Local residents of the area gather in the school premises in the evening and take alcohol and also indulge in gambling. The school has became a hub of drinkers”, said Rattan Lal Sharma, a local resident of the village.
When contacted Director School Education Gulzar Qureshi said that for “the problem of shortage of the staff in the school will be solved as soon as possible”.
He also said that “as there are 3000 schools in the state so it is not possible to approach each and every school at the same time but we are on the work to develop the school one by one”.
