| Adopt new techniques to sort out disputes, CJ | | Says, incentives for efficient judges | |

In order to ensure speedy disposal of cases, efficient judges in the state will be rewarded with incentives and recognition, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Justice B A Khan has said.
Chief Justice also urged the legal fraternity to adopt new techniques mediation and conciliation to sort out the disputes at the initial stages so that long drawn legal procedures are avoided.
"Incentives and recognition would be extended to judges showing performance in prompt disposal of cases," he said at a function after laying the foundation stone of a court complex at Sumbal in north Kashmir.
''Our endeavour should be to provide justice to people within reasonable time'', Justice Khan said.
The Chief Justice asked the judges, advocates and other sections of the legal community to work with added zeal and commitment so that prompt justice is ensured to people.
He said people have expectations from judiciary and approach it with the greater aim to get early justice.
Justice Khan maintained that a new mechanism has been put in place in the state to speed up disposal of pending cases.
He said thrust has been laid to pay focused attention towards speedy disposal of cases and matters involving human lives, family disputes and accident claims.
The new court complex is estimated to cost about Rs 93 lakhs and expected to be completed within a year.
Asserting that adequate infrastructural facilities are required for the judiciary to function in a better manner, The Chief Justice said about 40 per cent courts presently functions in rented buildings and there is an urgent need to provide adequate accommodation facility to the courts. He called for the implementation of a scheme under which the Centre provides matching funds to the state for the development of judicial infrastructure.
He asked the state government to take up this matter with the concerned authorities adding the Prime Minister is keen to develop the judicial and other infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir.
Justice Khan directed the concerned executing agencies to immediately take up work on the new court complex and ensure that it is functional within six months. |
