| Govt sends CIC’s clearance report to Governor | | | Early Times Report
Jammu: In a significant development that can pave way for speeding up the process of formal appointment of Chief Information Commissioner GR Sofi, the government is stated to have acquired the clearance report from the CVC, a pending step that hindered the process till date. The government is said to have sent this report to Governor NN Vohra again for seeking his assent, a mandatory step in this high level post.
It is pertinent to mention that Governor NN Vohra declined to give his assent on the name as the state government had failed to attach the clearance report about the credentials and other record about the said officer nor had it obtained the same prior to sending it to the Governor. The government recently appointed the CIC for State Information Commission following the decision taken by the high level selection committee comprising the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand and the Leader of the Opposition Mehbooba Mufti in the meeting held here recently. The selection and appointment of the two Information Commissioners, however, is still pending with the government.
