2 top HM PPR commanders among three ultras killed in Ramban | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 08: In a fierce gunbattle, police and army today gunned down three HM PPR militants, including two top commanders, in Harni Harnal nullah forests of Banihal in Ramban. Acting on a tip-off about the presence of militants in a camouflaged hideout in the upper reaches of Banihal, overlooking Arpinchala village, police and 23 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) troops launched an operation in the area last night. Police sources said when the jawans were nearing a natural cave opening on a steep rock face under a waterfall early this morning, they came under heavy fire from the militants. Fire was returned. In the ensuing exchange of fire that lasted till afternoon, jawans killed all the three militants while they attempted to flee, the sources added. The slain militants were identified as HM PPR divisional commander Abdul Rashid Naik alias Qari Zuber, son of Akbar Naik of Lohata Khari, district commander Nasir Ahmed Naik alias Mashqur, son of Mohammad Ramzan of Seeran Khari, and Mushtaq Ahmed, son of Abdul Rehman Naik of Locatha Sari. Two AK rifles, one UBGL, a large quantity of ammunition, one mobile phone, its two batteries and a solar charger were recovered from them. While Qari was active since 1998, Naik had joined HM PPR ranks in 2005. Mushtaq had joined the Qari group in November 2010. Qari was involved in the killing of a 23 RR jawan, Israel Gujjar and many other civilians in and around Banihal. Sources said Qari had escaped during three encounters with security forces during the past six months in Ramban district and was one of the most dreaded ultras.
