Chopper services for remote areas in offing: Omar | | | Early Times Report Jammu, February 8 Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah Thursday said that State Government is actively working with the Centre to launch helicopter services for remote and cut-off areas in the State. “I have discussed the plan with the Union Home Minister P Chidambaram during his recent visit to Kishtwar and highlighted the necessity for such a service in a hilly state like Jammu and Kashmir”, he said and expressed the hope that the Centre would positively respond to the State’s proposal. Chairing a review meeting of Kishtwar District Board here, the Chief Minister said that most of the hilly areas of the State like Warwan, Marwah, Dachhan, Paddar, Chatroo, Karnah, Keran, Gurez, Zanskar remained cut-off during winters and are accessible in summer months as such heli-service for these and other similar areas was the need of the hour. The Chief Minister said that various power projects including 690 MW Rattle, 1000 MW Pakuldul and over 1100 MW Kiru and Kawer projects would be launched this year in Kishtwar district. “The preparatory work for the launch of these projects has been started”, he said adding that the Executing Agencies of these projects have been fully sensitized for providing feasible employment and sub-contracts to the locals. Omar Abdullah announced Rs. 4.90 crore additional funds to the current year’s district plan to help completion of various schemes and settling of land acquisition matters. The Chief Minister said that Rs 40 crore irrigation-cum-water supply scheme for Kishtwar would be preferred to AIDP funding from the Centre while Rs 2.78 crore Kishtwar Water Supply scheme is being taken up in the State sector. He announced Rs. 50 Lakh for the launch of this scheme. The meeting was attended by the Minister for Higher Education, Abdul Gani Malik, Minister of State for Cooperation, Manohar Lal, Political Advisor to the Chief Minister, Devender Singh Rana, Member Parliament, Lal Singh, Vice Chairman of Kissan, Pahari and Gujjar Development Boards, Rashpal Singh, Mushtaq Ahmad Bukhari and B. A. Naz besides legislators G. M. Saroori, Sajjad Ahmad Kitchloo, Asgar Ali, Chief Secretary, Madhav Lal, Principal Secretary, Planning and Development, Khurshid Ahmad Ganai, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, B. B. Vyas, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Pawan Kotwar, senior officers and district officers. In a PowerPoint presentation, the District Development Commissioner, Kishtwar said that 76.62 per cent achievements have been registered in the district of the current district development plan. He said that out of Rs. 54.96 crores over Rs. 42.11 crores have been expended under the district plan during the current year by the end of January this year. The meeting was addressed by the Minister for Higher Education, Abdul Gani Malik who is Chairman of the District Development Board, Kishtwar. He told the district administration to formulate panel for Rehbar-e-Taleem teachers and strictly adhere to the provisions of the scheme. He also underlined the need for an SRO to provide employment to one member of the family donating land to any development scheme. The Member Parliament and legislators in their speeches threw light on the status of various ongoing schemes and demanded special packages for remote and far-flung areas.
