Panchayat elections | BJP launches movement for 73rd, 74th amendment | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 8: Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) today launched movement seeking implementation of 73rd and 74th amendment letter and spirit before holding forthcoming Panchayat elections. Movement started under the leadership of Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) state President Shamsher Singh Manhas. While addressing the movement, Manhas said that the government has turned a deaf ear to the demand of BJP. He also said that on one hand, NC leadership argues that militancy can be contained only through genuine democratic expression of the people. Manhas added that if the government manipulates Panchayat elections and appoints government nominated candidates, it may lead to further alienation and unrest among masses. Manhas alleged that congress included demand for implementation of amendments in its manifesto but now has forgotten the same. He also said that elections would be futile if an overwhelming number of candidates are nominated by the government on one pretext or the other.
