BJP for enhancing army presence in J&K | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 8: Citing elimination of three Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists in Banihal encounter by Army, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly advocated for enhancing presence of army in Jammu and Kashmir. In a statement issued here today, BJP National Executive Member and Chief Spokesperson Dr. Jitendra Singh stated that elimination of three Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists in the Banihal encounter on Tuesday, for which state police is claiming credit, was infact, possible only because of a joint operation carried out with the assistance of 23 Rashtriya Rifles. Dr. Singh advised the administration to be highly guarded and restrained in passing hurried judgements on the performance of the Army and referred to the statement made by General Officer Command (GOC) of Army’s Srinagar-based 15 corps, Lieutenant General S.A. Hasnain, wherein he had denied the allegation of custodial killing of Handwara youth and said that the slain youth and his associate were asked to stop by ambush party but they paid no heed to the warning. Dr. Singh appealed to the Kashmir-centric political parties not to resort to Army bashing simply to score political points. Cautioning that any decision for troop withdrawal should not be consciously or sub-consciously inspired by political motivation, Dr. Singh said that a better confidence building measure (CBM) instead would be to lower level of personal security enjoyed by Chief Minister and Ministers. Meanwhile, for an on-the-spot inspection of the developmental works in progress and those which have been completed in the premises of Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Jullaka Mohalla, BJP Member of Legislative Assembly from Jammu East Constituency Ashok Khajuria alongwith School Principal Davinder Kour and staff members went around the school complex and inspected the examination hall, library, newly constructed toilets-cum-bathrooms and other places. The MLA, while appreciating the efforts put in by the present Principal Davinder Kour for overall development of school, said that during past few months, he himself had visited this institution thrice and today it seems that a total new look has been given to the school and first impression now to any visitor is that it is the most maintained and cared institution in Jammu city. Speaking about the unemployment in the state, Khajuria said that with each passing year, thousands of students come out of educational institutions after getting academic and professional degrees and unfortunately they are left with no other option but to work in private sector for very less salaries as private sector in J&K has not flourished properly. Besides School Vice-Principal Sudha Dhar and other teaching staff, a number of prominent inhabitants of the area, including some ex-students, namely Dalip Gupta, Rajesh Khajuria, Shashi Sapolia, Ajesh Sharma, Pardeep Langeh, Subhash Baru, Ramesh Gupta, Diwakar Bhardwaj were also present on the occasion.
