‘Bharat Jyoti Award’ for Balwant Thakur | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 9: ‘Bharat Jyoti Award’ is being conferred on Balwant Thakur for his life-time contribution in the field of Art and Culture. Prominent Indian personalities who have been bestowed with this honor include Mother Teresa, former Vice-President B.D. Jatti, Governors, Gen. K.V. Krishna Rao, Fatima Devi, M.M. Jecob, Dr. Iqbal Singh, Dr D,Y. Patil and Chief Ministers Prem Kumar Dhumal, (Himachal Pradesh) Digambar Kamat (Goa) and Veerapa Moily (Karanataka). Prominent personalities from the state of Jammu and Kashmir on whom this Award has been conferred include Abdul Rahim Rather, Finance Minister and the Former Deputy Chief Minister Muuzaffar Hussain Beig. ‘Bhaat Jyoti Award’ to Balwant Thakur will be presented on March 4, 2011 at New Delhi along with a ‘Certificate of Excellence’ during an International seminar entitled ‘Global Participation in India’s Economic Development’. This award has been instituted by India International Friendship Society. Thakur worked as Secretary J&K Academy of Art Culture and Languages. Among many accomplishments, under his creative guidance the State of J&K won Best tableaux Award for the first time in 1997 and continued the tradition of winning Best Awards in 1999 and 2001. Widely traveled Balwant Thakur held his presentations in Bangkok (Thailand) Singapore, London, Oxford, Brighton, Stratford, Berlin, Frankfurt, (Germany), Vatican City, Rome (Italy) Moscow, Yaroslavl, Belgrade, St. Petersburg, Turkey, Denmark, Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, and Dhaka.
