RTI Awareness camp held in Budgam | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 9: In view of creating mass awareness about Right to Information Act (RTI Act) among citizens of state, Jammu and Kashmir RTI Movement in association with Divisional Administration Kashmir and Budgam District Administration organized one day Public Durbar-cum-RTI awareness programme at Khag in Budgam district. Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Dr Asgar Samoon was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Dr Samoon stressed upon Government officials to abide by RTI Act and urged upon people to use RTI Act for making government officials accountable. He urged District Administration Budgam to organize more such seminars and workshops so that the officials of the District Administration as well as general public are apprised about the provisions of J&K RTI Act 2009. Deputy Commissioner Budgam Mohammed Rafi also directed district officers to ensure implementation of RTI Act in their offices. He also gave a detailed account of the developmental works being undertaken in the Khag area under various centrally and state sponsored schemes. While responding to the Tosamaidan firing range, Rafi said that he is in constant touch with the concerned Army top brass and the Army has assured him of taking more safety measures when such firing is undertaken in future. Convener of J&K RTI Movement Dr Muzaffar Bhat gave a brief account of J&K RTI Act 2009 and urged upon public to use their right under RTI law. He appealed administration to direct public authorities to make pro-active disclosure of all the works being executed in various areas as this is mandatory for all the government departments under Section 4 of J&K RTI Act 2009 as well as under National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA).
