PM to inaugurate Jagti township for Kashmiri migrants

JAMMU, Feb 9: After much delay, now the state government had decided that the flats for the Kashmiri migrants will be allotted during the Prime Minister visit in the state, which is decided in March.
It is pertinent to mention here that the process of allotment have delayed many times, in 2008 the state government had made a plan of allotment process of over 4,000 flats for Kashmiri migrants at Jagti township near Nagrota of district Jammu. constructed under the Prime Minister Rehabilitation plan. The construction cost of flats is at about 335 crores.
According to the reports, the government was supposed to give allotment last December, however, till date no steps have been taken for allotments.
Manisha Koul, a Kashmiri migrant said that government was making hollow claims for the past about three years, now they were pinning hope on Prime Minister’s visit who would possibly inaugurate these flats .

When contacted the Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation, Raman Bhalla said that the department was waiting for the Prime Minister’s visit and he will inaugurate this.
He further said that this is huge project and takes time to established but due to some problems this project could not be inaugurated from the last few years.
The township spread over an area of 716 kanals, having 4218 flats besides all other basic facilities, including internal roads, educational and health institutions, has been developed to rehabilitate Kashmiri Migrants under the Prime Minister’s Rehabilitation and Return Package for the displaced persons.
Yesterday Chief Secretary had taken review of the work on the township and had inspected the status of work on the flats and other infrastructure coming up in the township.
A playground measuring 15 kanals which was under possession of the company for providing accommodation to labourers had been cleared and levelling work would be completed by March 10, the authorities told. He was also informed that 10 park strips along the main road are also being developed the work on which is apace.
It is pertinent to mention here that Jagti township has shown repeated delays, as it was supposed to be completed in 2008, but has missed number of deadlines.
