CJ lays foundation stone of mediation centre | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, FEB 09- Chief Justice (CJ) Jammu and Kashmir High Court, Dr Aftab Hussain Saikia laid the foundation stone of mediation centre in the premises of High Court Complex, Jammu here today. The proposed Mediation Centre has been sanctioned under 13th Finance Commission with an estimated cost of Rs. 1 crore. The proposed building comprises of four mediator’s room, one Conference Hall, two staff room and one officer room would be constructed by PWD (R&B) Department. The main mediation Centre, meant for resolving the disputes outside the court, shall be an Alternate Dispute Resolution Centre and is proposed to be set up at all District Headquarters with main Mediation Centre at High Court Complex, Jammu. The Mediation Centre will facilitate the mediation and conciliation proceedings as envisaged by the amended Code of Civil Procedure and will go to shorten the civil litigation inter se the parties. There will be penal of mediators who will be appointed and will act as mediators in the Centre who will conduct proceedings which will have powers of the civil Court. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Justice elaborated in brief about the significances of the Mediation Centre and said that the mediation centres becomes successful with the wholeheartedly support and cooperation of the advocates. Chief Justice said that he devolved upon the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and stressed the speedy disposal of the cases and added that this mechanism when fully operationalised will go in a long way in solving the miseries of the litigants public. Among others, Justice Mansoor Ahmed Mir, Justice J. P Singh, Justice Sunil Hali, Registrar General, Advocate General, President Bar Association B. S. Salathia, Bar members and advocates were present on the occasion.
