Akhoon seeks cooperation for traffic management

JAMMU, FEBRUARY 10: To streamline traffic regulation system in the capital cities of the State, the Minister for CA&PD and Transport, Qamar Ali Akhoon has sought active cooperation of all concerned agencies.
The Minister was speaking at the Transport Advisory Committee (TAC) meeting held here today after a gap of 10 years.
He said emerging traffic scenario in capital cities of the state characterized by long traffic snarls has necessitated to hold a meeting of TAC aimed at improving the traffic movement in these two cities adding that a private firm has been engaged for formulation of a comprehensive project based on long term and short term proposals for effecting significant improvement in the traffic regulation.
Akhoon said that traffic signals are being installed at vital crossings of both the cities shortly. He said tenders have already been floated which are getting good response from different firms. He said allotment of work will be finalized soon after opening the tenders after February 24, the last date fixed for receiving tenders.
After deliberating on various issues, the Minister assured the members of the Committee of due consideration to their valuable suggestions with regard to improvement in regulation of traffic in Jammu or Srinagar cities and safety of general people. He also assured the members that action taken report will be presented in the next meeting of the Advisory Committee.
Qamar said to maintain transparency and accountability in the functioning of ARTOs at district level, computerization of records has been taken up. In the first instance, 7 districts have been taken up.
These include Kupwara, Pulwama, Kargil, Anantnag, Doda and Poonch. In second and third phase all other districts will also be brought under this preview, he added.
Legislators, T. S. Wazir, Commissioner Secretary, CA&PD and Transport, Pardeep Gupta, Transport Commissioner, Fazullah, IG, Jammu, H. K. Lohiya, Special Secretary, CA&PD, Transport and Home ex-MP, Janak Raj Gupta, ex-MLC, Ch. Piyara Singh, RTO Jammu/Kathua and members of different transport associations were present .
