Altaf seeks public cooperation to protect environment | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 10: Environment conservation has assumed top most importance in the wake of global warming, Minister for Forest and Environment Mian Altaf today said that today seeking whole-hearted cooperation of all the stakeholders in conserving the green wealth of the State. Addressing a one-day convention of the employees of Social Forestry department here today, the Minister said that the Environment conservation was all the more necessary for sustenance and survival of living beings including humans. He said that government would encourage employees for safeguarding green wealth and protecting the environment from the onslaught of human greed. Demands which include change of designation of helpers, holding of DPC, creation of posts for the new districts, amendment in recruitment rules of Non-gazetted and removal of pay anomalies. State President, JKNTUF, Mohammad Gafoor Dar, President, Ghulam Rasool Geelani and General Secretary Raj Singh also sp9oke on the occasion. Meanwhile, Minister for Forest Mian Altaf Ahmed has said that 10 lakh trees would be planted during the month of March 2011 in the valley. These trees are being planted on 900 hectors of available land for the development of forests. The minister was addressing at a high level review meeting of officers of Forest Department here today. Minister was also informed that 2.14 lakh trees are being planted in Shopian and Pulwama districts for which 101 hectates of Land would be covered under this programme. Minister was further informed that the wild life Department will also plant 2.45 lakh trees in Dachigam, Khrew, Ajas, Daksum, Kheram, Avara, Hajan, Kothar and Lachmanpora areas. Minster urged upon the officers to gear up its all forest units so that vacant land is covered under plantation during the ensuing plantation season.
